Everything Changes

Well it has been a while since I posted on here and the original aims of this little corner of the internerd have shifted somewhat.

So a lot of things have changed, not all of them for the better. The pandemic hit and is having continuing long term effects in all areas of life. Spirit Games closed it’s doors on the physical shop for the final time during this period and with it went one of the friendliest local game stores I ever had the pleasure to frequent (They still continue to trade via their website online). Just before the pandemic we had the last “Beer and Pretzels” gaming weekend, a huge loss as it was a very well liked and attended gaming event.

Another consequence of Spirit’s closure was the loss of a fantastic gaming space in the town, which has had the effect of dispersing and fragmenting the various groups that gamed there. Phil and Sally have a revival of Wed night gaming sessions running at the “The Cons Club” in the High Street Burton on Trent, though the numbers are sadly not as high as when it was at the Shop.

There are groups playing in pubs around the town and the local “Geek Retreat” seems to be very popular. I have been trying to think of places to revive the old Monthly Sunday Gaming that was held at the shop but finding somewhere with the Space, Tables and decent lighting that does not charge a fortune is difficult. I noticed the Geek Retreat have a Sunday Board games session, though it appears to only be a couple of hours so limits the selection of games you could play.

I joined the Cons Club after attending the new wed night gaming organised by Spirit and wound up starting a new hobby of Crown Green Bowling. The club was starting a new ‘B’ Team and invited people to come along and try out. I have been enjoying it ever since and like to think I am getting fairly decent at it 😉
